Whale Watch: Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do you recommend advance reservations for your cruises and ferries?
While reservations are not required, we strongly recommend you reserve spots for our whale watches if you know for certain the specific day and time you want to attend.

2) What should I bring?
We recommend wearing comfortable shoes or sneakers and bringing along a light sweater or jacket. Sunscreen and sunglasses are a must, and don’t forget your camera or binoculars.

3) When is the best time to go whale watching?
April through October is great for whale whale watching. The time of day you go makes no difference in whale sightings or activity; it is just a matter of convenience for you.

4) What happens if I go on a whale watch but we don't see any whales?
Whale sightings at on any BHC whale watch are fully guaranteed. If there are no whale sightings on your trip, you will receive a free ticket for a future BHC whale watch.

5) Is there food on board?
We have a cash snack bar and full liquor bar on board. Our food selection includes chips, cookies, crackers, nutrition bars, candy, soft drinks, juices, bottled water, hot dogs and cold sandwiches.

6) Can I make a ticket reservation online?
Yes! Boston Harbor Cruises offers ONLINE TICKETING for a number of cruises and ferries. Click on the link to reserve your tickets online or you can buy tickets in person at one of our ticket booth locations. And if you book your tickets online there is no will call window since BHC offers hassle-free dockside check-in.

7) What happens if I've reserved tickets but can't make it for the cruise?
Sorry, but advance-order tickets for all BHC whale watches are non-refundable but they may be transferred to another day and time depending on availability. Transfers cannot be handled online or over the telephone, but must in person at a BHC ticket center.

8) Do you offer discounts for large groups?
We do have discounted group rates for parties of 25 or more. Please see our Group Tours page for more information.

9) Do you sell gift certificates for your cruises?
We do. Please call or e-mail us using the information on our Contact page with your specific request, and we'll get right back to you!
