Naturalists Notes 11-12-17
November 12, 2017
Today’s beautifully calm sea conditions were a great welcome back after this week’s most recent cancellations. We made our way out to southern Jefferys, where we found one deep diving humpback whale. We were unable to resight this animal after several minutes, but enjoyed some great sightings of harbor porpoise and harbor seals in the meantime! After waiting for a little while longer with no whale back up at the surface, we decided to do some exploring. We traveled nearly 20 miles down to an area near the northwest corner of Stellwagen and encountered a very familiar humpback, Dross! Dross was very quickly making a beeline south, possibly on her way to Silver Bank for the mating and calving season. With our last week of whale watching upon us, it will be exciting to see what other behaviors we can observe before our last trip of the season!
